Taproom News 17.03.17

6 Nations

It's the final weekend of action in the 6 Nations and lots of taprooms will be showing the action. Here in Walthamstow you have a couple of choices. Both Pillars and Wildcard will be showing all the games on Saturday. At the former it's your last chance to enter their 'Flix Nations Challenge' and there will be street food courtesy of Sticky Beaks. Over at Wildcard, feast on Harley Dogs and stick around for Bangarang Sounds DJ Set (from 20.00, free entry) after the rugby action.

South of the river, check out one of the newest London taprooms to take in all the games. We're talking about you Villages!

By The Horns will also be showing 'Super Saturday' at their taproom. Table bookings have now sold out so be prepared to get your lean on. Street food available from 14.00 via Pulled.

Finally, Wimbledon Brewery are offering a pretty sweet ticketed event for the rugby. You can watch the game on their 80 inch screen and the £20 ticket also gets you a pre-game brewery tour & tasting, two free pints (or wine/soft drink equivalent), a BBQ and entry into their Christmas prize draw. Tickets available right here. Some may be available on the day but it's best to check in with the brewery beforehand.

The Kernel Returns!

Down in Bermondsey, it's exciting news for The Kernel fans still reminiscing about Saturdays at their taproom. The Bottle Shop are holding a tap takeover with the craft Godfathers all weekend. 12 taps no less. Not to be missed.

Elsewhere in the craft capital, Anspach & Hobday are showcasing a couple of new beers over the weekend - a sea salt & chill salt along with a Belgian bitter.

As ever, Brew By Numbers have some super fresh new beers to try. The latest iteration of their Saison features Motueka & lime, whilst fresh of the IPA line is their Azacca & NZ Cascade. Their open on Friday night from 18.00 so beat the Saturday crowds and work your way through their range.

St Patrick's Day

A couple of South London breweries are bringing back some old favorite to help celebrate St Patrick's Day. Brixton Brewery will have a rare keg of their excellent Windrush Stout available at the taproom on Saturday. Bullfinch meanwhile are re-releasing their Kells Irish Red Ale along with plenty of whiskey specials at the bar.

Whilst we're talking Bullfinch - good news this week that they're extending the taproom's opening hours to include Wednesday's (16.00 - 22.00).

Bits and bobs

Spurs at playing at home which means Redemption will be opening it's taproom doors in North London on Sunday. Also in that neck of the woods be sure to check out one of the newest (and possibly cutest) taproom's from the guys at Affinity Brew Co. Serving up beers from their shipping container (to drink in or takeaway) be sure to check out their brilliant Dark Gravity Stout. Go and support Ben and Steve, their lovely.

Brick are tapping their small batch pineapple IPA exclusively at their taproom as of Thursday. Get it while you can!

Looking ahead....

Next Saturday sees Mondo's second party with the Heretic Brewing Co guys from California. They'll be brewing a collaboration beer on the day, with a full Heretic tap takeover at the bar (along with Mondo's beers). There will also be street food and music - here's the FB event page.

Sambrook's are also throwing a party next Saturday to celebrate the start of spring and the launch of their new session IPA (name TBC). Street food is provided courtesy of Prairie Fire and there's DJ's and live music too - tickets are just a fiver which also includes a free pint.

Next Thursday (23/03) there is another rugby centric event at Wimbledon Brewery. They will be hosting a 6 Nations review and Q&A with ex-England player and broadcaster Brian Moore. There will also be a quiz and the £20 ticket also includes a gourmet burger. Check out the FB event page for all the deets - all in aid of raising sports equipment for St Mary's Catholic Primary School in Wimbledon.

And finally, a big East London welcome to another new kid on the block - Nirvana Brewery. Based in Leyton, they'll be focusing on low ABV/0% beers and launching their shiny new taproom in the coming weeks. You can keep up to date with all the latest news from the brewery by signing up to their newsletter. With Magic Spells also soon to open their taproom nearby, it's exciting times for the Leyton beer scene.
